Ashleigh Pilkerton and Aiko Utamaru wanted to make a difference and help save the seas. To do this they carried out many projects: they raised awareness, had people pledge to help save the ocean, executed a beach clean-up, negotiated with sushi restaurants, and held a Planet Ocean Movie Night. To accomplish these events they carried out significant communication with groups and individuals, created posters, bookmarks, flyers, and tabled for hours in the UC. They encountered challenges along the way and met resistance from the restaurants to incorporating changes and had to cancel a panel discussion they were trying to set up. From these events, they learned a lot and reinvested their energies into the man other events they successfully completed. Throughout the process they learned a lot about communication, planning and leadership. They successfully raised awareness about the seas and have made a positive impact on the world around them.
