Joel Hansen and Darran Kim set up and ran an eyeglass donation project. They originally had the goal of collecting 50 pairs of eyeglasses and ended up with almost 300 pairs of eyeglasses, vastly exceeding their expectations. To accomplish this they ran a drive at Pacific that included much tabling, as well as coordinating with outside organizations such as Forest Grove High School, St. Bedes Church, St. Anthony’s Church, The Forest Grove Library and multiple optometrist’s offices and vision clinics. They also organized and led multiple members of the Pre-Optometry club to help them in their endeavors. During the course of their project they developed and improved many networking skills and communication skills, as well as learned the ropes of interacting with many of the organizations that this project brought them in contact with. In the end, they succeeded in helping the community more than they had even imagined they would.
