For Amber’s Organize an Activity, she knew she wanted to help the elderly from an assisted living home nearby. Amber was once into “couponing” and had collected a large variety of unused things ranging from shampoos and conditioners to adult diapers. She decided that instead of letting those items go to waste, it would be better to give the toiletries away to those who would use and appreciate them. While receiving help from her grandmother and her boyfriend, Amber assembled little goodie bags for the seniors that included some toiletries and handwritten Christmas cards. Together the group went and distributed the bags to the residents at the facility. Amber explained how rewarding it was to not only surprise the residents with gifts and cards, but also to take the time to visit with each of them during the holidays.

How does this relate to Ethics? Amber said, “I think that this activity mainly falls under care ethics “caring about the needs, interests, values, and wishes of the persons involved”. Because I was caring about the needs and wishes of the people in the nursing home and providing them with a little something to fulfil those needs and wishes. Not only that, We also got to talk to each person we gave a bag to and learn a little bit about them. It was nice for them to be able to have someone to talk to. This falls under care ethics because it showed that we were identifying with each individual and we were showing sympathy and a willingness to hear what they had to say.”
