This group wanted to bring awareness to the scope and reality of ocean fishing gear pollution, specifically ghost nets. What are ghost nets? Fishing nets and gear that have been lost or left in the ocean by fishermen. Every year they are responsible for trapping and killing millions of marine animals (turtles, fish dolphins, live coral).
Daisy, Laura, Jasmine, Micaela, and Tamlyn hosted a ghost net craft workshop at Pacific University, in conjunction with Portland-based artist Emily Miller. They provided individuals with alternative sustainable options as well as brands and organizations to support in this cause. During the workshop and companion presentation, people learned about ghost nets and made their own crafts out of the used nets.
