Vilayvone organized a group of her friends and family that volunteered to pack meals at the non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). She connected her project to the lessons taught in her ethics class by emphasizing its direct concern for the basic needs of others and its demonstration of ethical values, including generosity and charity.
Her group of volunteers helped pack 1,920 meals! When reflecting upon this assignment, this student said she was happy she chose to do this project, she stated that, “It has opened my eyes to see things in a different way.” While discussing whether the project helped her better understand ethics, she asserted that “Before I didn’t know much about the theories of ethics, but now I have a pretty good idea of what they are…that [they] apply to my everyday life.” She expanded on how the project changed her perspective by adding: “I did not think it is my responsibility to care for the people that I did not know or have contact with . . . Ethics has showed me that I have reached out to help others around the world.”
