For Noelle’s Organize an Activity, she decided to reach out to an organization called Days for Girls, with whom she previously volunteered. Noelle reached out to this organization’s leader at the Brooklyn Park location to see what she could do and what needed to be done. Noelle decided to make hygiene kits for women in poverty who were unable to attend work and school due to their periods. Noelle organized a small group from her church to complete this project together.

How does this project relate to ethics? Noelle says this: “When I think of organizations like Days For Girls, I am reminded of Peter Singer, who asks us to help the charities who are in the most need. At a first glance, giving women feminine products really doesn’t seem like it’s going to do a whole lot. However, by providing these women with pads, underwear, and soap, we are actually saving lives and making life more sustainable. When you’re stuck in a hut for up to a week, you really can’t make a decent income to support your family. You’ll fall behind in school because you can’t aid your bleeding. When these women receive these pads, they’re able to continue on with their lives like they should be able to do in the first place! Effective altruists ‘give to the cause that will do the most good, given the abilities, time, and money they have available.’ (Singer, Doing the Most Good, page 7).”
