For their civic engagement project, Kyla and Marizela wanted to hold a clothing swap to give clothes to those who weren’t prepared for winter.
They gathered clothing donations from family, friends, and people who had heard about their project through flyers and social media.
Then they invited families from a nearby school to come to the clothing swap. After the clothing swap, they took any leftover items to Sharing and Caring Hands, a charitable organization in Minneapolis.
According to Kyla and Marizela, “We hope that people will take responsibility for those in their community, care enough to give, and have a sense of pride in their citizenship. We hope to ease the burden of buying winter attire for those who are struggling to provide for their family, and provide children and people in our community proper Minnesota winter clothing. We are taking responsibility for those in our community, and caring for their basic needs by aiding in keeping them warm this winter.”
