For this Organized Activity, a group made several tie blankets and then to donate them to a local hospital to give to children with cancer. The materials required to make the blankets were personally chosen and purchased by the group members and each blanket took an average of 1.5 hours to cut and tie. The hospital, which the girls chose to donate the blankets to, not only provided blankets for their patients going through chemo but they also offered the patients wigs. All together, the girls made and donated 11 blankets to the hospital!
When discussing their Organized activity, the group shared, ” It’s easy to think this is just a fun activity that we could do once in awhile, but isn’t something mandatory. . . Or, in other words, it’s easy to think of this project as an imperfect duty. . . Ethics of persons says we are no (more) special than anyone else, and our needs for comfort are no different than (the needs of) those kids with cancer. So, why should we put our needs of comfort over theirs?”
